happy hour

This evening, Gainesville's own Wolfgang hosted a cocktail party/summer sale. I documented for The Gainesville Style while testing my multi-tasking skills. I can now successfully shoot photos/drink gin/browse for new threads. Here are a few shots from this afternoon:

In Progress...

Here are some collages I've begun. (Actually, I haven't touched half of them in a few months. I'm wondering if that means they're finished.) Maybe I should just frame these bad boys and call it a day. Thoughts?

El próximo proyecto

My second project was a dress (because JESUS IT'S HOT). I began with this t-shirt, san sleeves. (I had already cut them off, perdón.) It is printed on the interior of the fabric, so I planned to add a little punch by turning part of the shirt inside-out to better see screen-printed side.

I wanted my final product to be a simple, comfortable shirt dress...ejemplos:

The tee itself was just a few inches short of decent. First, I took the bottom hem of the fabric and folded it up towards me (exposing the interior screen print). I sewed this into place over the original hem.

I had saved the bottom half of the t-shirt fabric from my last post to evolve this shirt into a dress. For this step, I turned the printed tee inside-out and sewed the second shirt onto it, making approximately a 1-inch hem. Finally, I folded and sewed a hem at the bottom of solid fabric.

At this point, it looked something like this:
Now all that's left is to put it on! Woop!

hills marathon x diy

La semana pasada, tuvimos un yard sale. Me quede con cuatro camisas de mi amigo. Obviamente, no me quedaban...I had to fix that. DIY time!
Two of the shirts were boring v-necks so I simply raised the hem so they don't look like I'm walking out hungover, shoes in hand, on a Saturday morning. The other two were loud and graphic and irresistible.

Here is the first t-shirt: (yes, that's Elvis)
As soon as I laid eyes on this number, I knew it was destined for my growing collection of crop tops. (They're officially on the runway, boo-ya.)
Since the rule for crop top is the wider the better, I first cut around the neckline so the fabric falls off the shoulders.
Next, I cut the shirt to the desired length (about 2 inches above the navel) and turned the shirt inside-out. I folded the fabric about an inch up to create a hem, and sewed a zigzag seam around the entire width of the shirt.
